We teamed up with Kristina Kybartaite-Damule, the founder and editor of the beautifully written perfume magazine "Plezuro|Mag". Let's dive right in and see what Kristina rates as her 5 best perfume discoveries of the year.
"Wrapping up the new perfume releases and discoveries is my favorite annual entertainment. Even though I save it like candy, and like to keep the final summary for the very last days of December - just in case something groundbreaking gets released! - I subconsciously start thinking about what will make it onto my list as early as fall. So, let me share my five favorite discoveries of the year, which I’m fairly certain will make it into my annual top 10.
In no particular order:
1.Marc-Antoine Barrois Tilia
This honeyed linden blossom fragrance was like a midsummer dream for me. It instantly made me happy, evoking memories of hot days in my hometown on lazy weekends, when the only thing I had to worry about was what flavor of ice cream to choose (even though I usually ended up picking the same one). Ever since I tried it in the boutique, I couldn’t get it out of my head - I had to have it. It became my most-worn fragrance this summer, which says a lot. Created by Quentin Bisch, it lingers on the skin for hours and is unforgettable.
2.Thomas De Monaco Parfums
Ultima Storia
This was probably my most anticipated fragrance of the year. I was first introduced to it at Esxence in March, and it stayed on my mind ever since. It opens with a dark citron, and just when you think, "Oh no, another boring citrus fragrance," it reveals a completely different facet. Powdery orris, talcum, and gourmand notes of roasted coffee, almond, and pear surround the dark lemon, creating a unique scent unlike anything I’ve smelled before. Ultima Storia feels like a postcard of summer in Italy and is just as fitting for fall.
3.Houbigant Vanille Impériale
This is my newest discovery - I tried it for the first time just two weeks ago, and I was captivated! It shouldn’t come as a surprise, knowing that I’m very fond of vanilla, but let me emphasize that this is not your ordinary vanilla. It’s ambery (part of the new Collection Les Ambres), beautifully blended with tuberose, rose, ambrette, amberwood, and musks. Sometimes I even think I smell cherry, though it’s not listed as a note. It’s beautiful, alluring, and irresistible!
4.Bon Parfumeur 502
Iris Cartagena
Another fragrance I had been waiting since Esxence. Two things I love - iris and cocoa -are gorgeously blended into one perfume. It’s deeply sweet, with an intoxicating sip of rum, a touch of bitter coffee, and sweet vanilla. Imagine sitting by the window on a rainy, gray day. You don’t need to go anywhere - just stay in your coziest oversized sweater, with a hot cup of cocoa and a good book in hand. That’s exactly the image this scent conjures for me.
5.Casamorati Levar del Sole
A sweet, fruity-floral fragrance blended to perfection. I was fortunate enough to attend Xerjoff’s presentation of the new perfumes in March, and I still remember the collective gasp in the crowd when a scented piece of paper was passed around. “Wow” could be heard from all corners of the room. I could list the notes - apple, rose, cardamom, violet, and caramel - but that wouldn’t do it justice. This is simply a beautiful scent that warms the heart and awakens the sleeping optimist within."
